Common to all BenSelect subsystems is the Selerix Data Model, which encapsulates data in case setup, benefit enrollment, case administration, and reporting. Likewise, the data model applies to all Selerix developer tools. In most instances the names used to refer to a particular data item is consistent across all views of a Selerix enrollment group. For example, the name of the XML tags used in web services SAML transmittals, which describe a field in the database, correspond to the name of an object property in the Selerix Business Objects as well as the fields in the Selerix Census Template.
To understand the BenSelect data model, it is necessary to understand a few high-level concepts about how benefits are organized on BenSelect, how the configuration of offerings are transmuted to data elements during enrollment, and the related terminology used to refer to components in the system. The diagram below illustrates key components that comprise an enrollment group, with emphasis on employer information, plans and products:
A Selerix Case, also referred to as a Group, is an enrollment site configured with the benefits that will be made available to eligible employees during an enrollment. A BenSelect Plan is an umbrella for a particular type of coverage, such as a "Voluntary Life", which has one or more products associated with it such as "Colonial Life" or "Trustmark Universal Life".
